We have petrol and diesel power washers for hire which are ideal for heavy duty outdoor cleaning. They are a quick and easy way to clean gardens and outdoor areas.
Pressure washers are a pump which runs pressurised water through a hose and forces it out through a spray nozzle or wand. The higher the pressure the tougher the cleaning they are capable of. They require a steady, uninterrupted supply of water.
Before you use a pressure washer it is important to have the correct safety equipment and be aware of the correct operating procedures.
- Safety goggles and rubber non slip shoes as well as long sleeved clothing will protect you from the dirt and debris.
- Keep your work area clear from children and pets
- Move plants or breakable objects away from your work area if possible
- If using a petrol or diesel power washer check the level of the fuel
- Make sure that the hose and nozzle are connected properly and that all the connections are tight.
How To Use a Pressure Washer
- Set the spray nozzle to a low or no pressure setting. This will prevent recoil or kickback when the machine is started.
- Turn on the water supply before turning on the pressure washer to avoid damaging the pump.
- Start the washer and allow a minute or two for the water to run through the machine and to remove any air.
- Hold the nozzle about 2 feet from the ground surface. Any closer and you risk damaging the surface.
- Keep the spray at about a 45 degree angle to the surface. Holding the spray “head on” or straight will drive the dirt into the surface instead of washing it away.
- Work small areas at a time. It is best to work top to bottom, left to right in long overlapping strokes.
- Keep electric lines well away from the work area
- If using a petrol or diesel washer, switch off the engine and allow to cool before refuelling
- When you are finished, stop the machine, turn the water off and make sure to remove any remaining water in the hose.
Important to Remember
- Never use a pressure washer when standing on a ladder
- Keep your hands away from the water stream and don’t point the spray at people or pets. The pressurized water can cause serious cuts and other injuries.
- Don’t spray windows or glass objects like patio table tops. The high pressure can shatter the glass.
- It is not advisable to use pressure washers in an enclosed area. If it is necessary make sure the area is well ventilated and there is a carbon monoxide alarm fitted.
